  34. I want to be able to play certain midi files with a different instrument
  35. mapping without having to go to Patch Manager to change banks under
  36. [Andows.  For instance, I have a couple of files that I like to play
  37. with a different piano patch, but I have to go to Patch Manager and
  38. manually switch banks.  These files have only one track, so it's not a
  39. question of having instruments from different banks at the same time.

  41. It is easy to do this in DOS with PLAYFILE by just creating a .CFG file
  42. for the midi file (I think).  How do I do this in Windows, playing midi
  43. files with Media Player, etc.?

  45. In MIDISoft Recording Session, there is an entry where you select the
  46. instrument for a track that says "Bank Number".  When I enter the number
  47. of the bank I want, it still plays using the default bank set in Patch
  48. Manager.

  50. Is there some kind of midi controller event that will cause the GUS to
  51. switch banks?  Any alternatives?  Thanks a bunch for your help!

  64. If NDW crashes on you you must be using WAY OLD GUS drivers.  Get a new set,
  65. say gus0048.zip from EPAS.

  80. about, but I find that my joystick is extremely sensitive when playing 
  81. NASCAR

  95. Is the GUS capable of playing multiple stereo signals
  96. simultaneously without mixing?

  98. I want to be able to play these signals on different 
  99. sets of speakers or headphones.  I'd like to be able
  100. to play four different stereo signals at the same time.
  101. And I'd like this to be CD-quality, 16-bit, 44kHz.

  105. I know that the GUS can play 14 stereo voices (16-bit, 44kHz) 
  106. at the same time, but is there a way to get at those voices 
  107. before they get mixed into the same signal?  I'm willing to pull
  108. the un-mixed signals off the hardware if need be.

  110. There is also the question of whether the device drivers 
  111. will let you do multiple .WAV file playback (for example) 
  112. at the same time.  Any hints as to stumbling blocks I might 
  113. run into along this route would also be appreciated.

  115. Alternatively, I could use 4 different soundcards at one time.
  116. Anybody ever tried this?  Which soundcards?  How many? Which
  117. operating system?  My application will probably require a 
  118. multi-tasking operating system, but I'd be grateful for 
  119. information on what worked or didn't for others.
